WASHINGTON- The Board of Elections has announced that the proposed Constitution has not passed tonight.

Students were able to vote for or against a proposed constitution that would have changed the structure of American University’s Student Government. The campaign period ended Sunday evening, and voting was open on the AU Portal from Monday, February 11th at 9:00 am through Tuesday, February 12th at 5:00 pm.

The final vote was 597 votes yes and 409 votes no. The AU for SA campaign needed two-thirds vote in order for this referendum to pass. 1,006 votes were cast in total.

Spring Elections will continue as planned. Information sessions regarding executive elections will be held on February 13th, 18th, 20th and 25th from 7:00-8:00pm. The Nomination Convention will be held on February 27th from 7:00-8:00pm. Students must attend at least one information session as well as the Nomination Convention in order to run for executive office.

The vote indicates there will be no change in the structure of Student Government.
